Born on the bayou, the second college football life of junior quarterback Joe Burrow has helped lead the LSU Tigers to a 5-0 record and the No. 5 spot in the national rankings.
This has put me on the Burrow bandwagon, though LSU isn’t my favorite college team. I want to see the Tigers do well all season because Burrow is a transfer from the Ohio State Buckeyes, my favorite college team.
I was a Notre Dame fan starting in 1964, Ara Parseghian’s first year as the team’s coach and quarterback John Huarte’s Heisman Trophy season with the Fighting Irish. But I soured on the Irish because of coach Charlie Weis’ last three seasons at Notre Dame, the worst being a 3-9 finish in 2007.
It was time for me to become a Mississippi State and Ohio State fan because my wife is an OSU graduate and our daughter is an MSU graduate.
I’ve maintained my Ohio State allegiance and elevated LSU to my second-favorite college team. I’ve lost interest in the Bulldogs after back-to-back losses under first-year coach Joe Moorhead with little hope for the rest of the season. No reason to suffer in silence watching them. Might as well hop on the Burrow bandwagon and enjoy the ride.
Burrow is one of only two Power 5 quarterbacks who have at least 1,000 passing yards and no interceptions this season and he had all kinds of highlights last weekend in Baton Rouge in a 45-16 victory against Ole Miss. Here are five of them.

That game and wins against two Top 10 teams are why Burrow is a fan favorite in his first season at LSU, so much so that Twitter accounts and T-shirt makers pay tribute to him.
The wordplay makes this the best tee I’ve seen.
Burrow has his own Twitter account and I saw one retweet showing that Ohio State fans are also on his LSU bandwagon.

Way to geaux, Joe, and I’ll stay on the bandwagon unless LSU meets Ohio State in the College Football Playoff.
