Photographer’s tweet wins Pels draft party in NOLA

I was thoroughly entertained after going to Twitter on Thursday to see what was happening at the New Orleans Pelicans draft party, and of all the party-related tweets I saw, this became my No. 1 pick.

Michael DeMocker, staff photographer for NOLA.com and The Times-Picayune, came up with a composite work of art featuring three of his draft party images.

Left: Saints fans ripping the hated Atlanta Falcons is always a sincere form of mockery. 28-3 is a much-beloved Who Dat meme about the lead the Dirty Birds lost to the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl in 2017. The Patriots won 34-28 in overtime. Never forget 28-3. It’s hilarious.

Top right: The Pelicans made Zion Williamson, the former Duke freshman phenom, the top selection in the NBA draft on Thursday. Forget Anthony Davis, now in La La Land with LeBron and the Lakers. Also forget Chris Paul, who left New Orleans in 2011 for Los Angeles’ other NBA team.

Bottom right: It’s way too early to say “Zion is better than LeBron.” Perhaps that’s a message from a overzealous Zionite, but there’s no debate about the “Saints got robbed.” Hold the grudge and never forget the no-call in the NFC title game last season.
