Grapes are considered to be superfruits, meaning they are extremely good for your health. Grapes are not only a rich source of fiber but also contain a range of vitamins and minerals along with other essentials like potassium etc. Studies have shown that grapes help protect against cardiovascular diseases, cancer, constipation, high blood pressure etc. The credit of this goodness of grapes lies in the presence of antioxidants called Polyphenols and another key nutrient called Resveratrol.

A drink made from grapes is, therefore, automatically, considered to be healthy. The benefits of drinking Red wine with food have been debated for a very long time. Many people swear by the fact that a glass of red wine is the secret to their long and relatively healthy life. It is also a proven fact that the goodness of grapes i.e., antioxidants and resveratrol passes on into the wine as well. And hence, moderate consumption of wine is good.

What Is The French Paradox?

It has often been noticed and commented upon that the French diet is rich in saturated fats and cholesterol. Yet, when compared to the rest of the world, the population of France has relatively low rates of heart disease and other illness associated with a very rich diet. This is the French Paradox. In the past, the onus of their good health was squarely put across as a benefit of drinking red wine.

Is Red Wine The Answer?

Relatively recent studies have shown that heart diseases are not caused by reasonable consumption of saturated fat and dietary cholesterol. In fact, you cannot completely do without the two as like everything else they are required for the proper functioning of the body. The main reason behind their good health lies in their diet, which is primarily whole foods, and their healthy lifestyle.

Red Wine Supplements Good Health

Moderate consumption of red wine helps in retaining HDL or the “good” cholesterol and reduces the LDL or the “bad” cholesterol, in the blood. This is because the red wine is rich in antioxidants.

The French are healthy because they eat healthy not because they drink wine. Wine just supplements their healthy lifestyle.
