Tequila is one of the drinks that is named after the area in which it is produced, the region of Tequila being in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The spirit is made from the agave plant which naturally grows in the region. The heart of the plant is cooked, fermented and then distilled to create a white tequila, some spirit will then continue its production process to become gold, rested or aged varieties.

Tequila is famously paired with orange juice and grenadine to create a Tequila Sunrise cocktail, but this trend may be about to change.

Beam Suntory, the worlds third largest premium spirits company, has announced the launch of something new, their latest pre-mixed spirit drink, Sauza Agua Fuerte. Made with a tequila base this is coming out just in time for summer.

Using the companies popular Sauza Silver brand of tequila mixed with sparkling water and one of three fruity flavours, the product is said to meet demand for the ready-to-drink cocktails and pre-mixed spirits market. The product contains no artificial flavors or sweeteners and is low in calories.

The fresh agave notes of the Sauza Silver are to match perfectly with the light, crisp notes of the three chosen flavours, lime, mango or grapefruit. Lime and tequila are a classic combination, mango is a popular pairing in Mexico and grapefruit offers a zesty alternative.

Available in cans and best served chilled the Sauza Agua Fuerte contains 5% alcohol.

Malini Patel, Vice President of Tequila and Premium Growth Platforms at Beam Suntory said: “We’re excited to introduce something new to the fast-growing, spiked sparkling water category. With a tequila spirit base and a focus on fresh, natural flavors. Sauza Agua Fuerte is perfect for tequila fans who are seeking light, refreshing cocktails to enjoy during the warm weather months.”

So move over shots of tequila, salt, and lemon, there’s now a new way to take tequila!
