The team behind Smirnoff Ice’s new mix have decided it’s simply not American to work across Independence Day so have decided to extend it for 100 people.

They would like everyone to tell their bosses they are taking a five-day weekend this year in order to properly celebrate America’s birthday. It is unfortunately to land on a Wednesday.

As Smirnoff Ice is made in America and they have just launched their red, white and berry mix in time for July fourth a national-sweepstake is underway. It is to result in 100 people taking July fifth and sixth off work. Each winner will also receive $500.

With the arrival of summer to the states the Smirnoff red, white and berry mix was brought back by popular demand. It had originally been created especially for America, it was said to be the perfect balance between patriotism and summer parties.

To join in the competition, hopeful competitors have been posting how they would spend their five-day weekend on the @SmirnoffUS Facebook and Instagram contest posts. The competition is due to end on July 1st, 2018 when winners will be selected at random.

“I think we can all agree that Wednesday isn’t enough time to celebrate America’s birthday. Who wants to head back to work when you could be on a beach, on a boat or on a mountain celebrating the good ole US of A?” said Krista Kiisk, Brand Director for Smirnoff Ice. “Smirnoff Ice is a brand that encourages people to have fun. We believe that America deserves more than 24 hours. That’s why we’re giving hard-working Americans the chance to extend their holiday to a five-day weekend by paying 100 people to take July 5th and 6th off, so they can celebrate the Smirnoff Ice way, with red, white and berry.”

Red, white and berry has been released as a limited edition summer drink. Tastes of blue raspberry, cherry and citrus have been blended together with the aim to create a fun ready drink or as an ingredient for this years’ summer cocktails.
