On Monday of this week, LeBron James achieved his biggest accomplishment to date and it was off the court. He opened the I Promise School in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. The school will serve about 1,000 students and many of them are underprivileged and at-risk. LeBron’s vision is to eliminate many of the barriers students and families face in order to change lives. He didn’t stop there. Each child receives, breakfast, lunch, snacks, a bike and helmet, uniforms, and transportation. It gets EVEN better! Students can receive free tuition to the University of Akron by meeting requirements set by the foundation. Parents can receive assistance with earning their GEDs and with finding jobs.

Over the last year Donald Trump has been in a war with NFL players and NBA players over protesting racial injustice and advocating for minority communities. He takes every opportunity to further the rift between his administration and the Black Community. The most recognizable Black athlete in the world accomplished an incredibly charitable feat and the President of the United States was silent for 5 days. The silence was broken by the tweet below.

Trump doesn’t just pass on opportunities to appeal to the Black community; he obliterates those opportunities and does whatever he can to make the situation worse. He was quick to call Black NFL players sons of bitches for protesting racial injustices, but couldn’t find comparable words for White Supremacists in Charlottesville. He took days to stew over his words and came up with “there were good people on both sides.” In this tweet, he continues his pattern of insults and insinuates that LeBron James is dumb. Let me remind you that LeBron was raised by a single mother, rose from poverty to become a millionaire, married his high school sweetheart and is the epitome of a great father to his children. Trump was given his millions, makes up words, mocks individuals who disagree with him, and is on his third marriage. LeBron James continues to set the bar as a role model. Donald Trump would be wise to put his phone down, pick up a pen and take notes from LeBron, rather than spew insults.
