Don’t let game days lead you to weight gain. It’s pretty easy to pack on the extra pounds if you are a sports enthusiast and often glued to your TV watching an intense game. Here are five healthy snacks that are easy to make so you can avoid ordering in… again!
Low In Calories, Rich In Flavor
- Healthy dips and sauces:
Instead of dunking chips in fattening, mayonnaise-based dips, try making your own barbecue sauce. Blend 4 tomatoes, ½ diced onion, 2 tsp brown sugar, 1 tsp mustard, ½ clove garlic and ½ tsp paprika. Let mixture sit at room temperature for 2-3 minutes, until onion softens, and serve.
- Veggie chips:
Cut thick slices of sweet potatoes, potatoes, beets, and carrots. Drizzle with olive oil, add salt and bake on cookie sheet until crisp. Enjoy these on their own or served with hummus.
- Homemade popcorn:
Use olive oil instead of butter when making your own popcorn. Also, try using less salt. Not only will you be getting fewer calories, but your house will smell great too.
- Mediterranean tacos:
Mix diced tomatoes, green onion, olives, lettuce, corn, yogurt, oregano and olive oil. Spread mixture over Arabic pita bread, roll up and serve immediately. Pair with a pilsner for best results.
- Dried fruits and nuts:
Dried fruits and nuts are the ideal snack when you want to increase your focus on an intense game. Just try to keep consumption to one handful and buy unsalted. Create your own snack mix and get creative!
