India is a land of diverse cultures and beings. But what binds us all together are our thoughts and beliefs. We are modern in outlook but at the core, we are all traditional. Our long established customs have found their way in our present lives. One such custom is that of fasting. Often people fast once a week on a set day, other times its monthly or annually on some auspicious occasion. Fasting does not mean abstinence from eating anything. Technically speaking it is being deprived of certain foods for a short period which is usually a few hours or a day.

Fasting Detoxifies

Fasting is an age-old method of detoxifying or cleansing our body. Taking a bath every day will help you clean your outward body. But what about that which is inside? Today we are all health conscious and wish to rid our body of all toxins that the polluted environment has forced upon us. While fasting we usually eat simple foods like fruits, salads, and fresh juices. These foods are a rich source of fiber and very easy to digest. This way our body spends less time on digesting food and can spend more time on cleaning up the toxins that are in our body. Let us try and understand this fact with a simple example. Say that your house does not get dirty every day but you still clean it regularly. Cleaning an already clean house gives you more time to pay attention to nooks and crannies where dirt tends to settle. This is exactly what takes place inside your body during fasting. The body’s energy reserves are used to clean up the body internally.

Fasting Good For Brain

Fasting is not just good for your body but also for your brain. Studies have proven that intermittent fasting puts minor pressure on the brain cells, but in a healthy manner. It boosts the production growth hormone which brings about tissue repair. Not only that but fasting also results in heightened mental clarity.  It increases focus and improves memory.

Fasting is highly beneficial for a healthy mind and body. It is a no-fuss method that guarantees a happy life.
